Valmont isn't what you'd call the world's most polite and tactful person, but he doesn't make a hobby of scaring people for no reason, and he at least has the good sense to look chagrined when Ren shrinks back from his outburst. Besides, even in a world where he's done nothing criminal (yet), it wouldn't do to call negative attention to himself, so he's visibly relieved to find that his conversation partner hasn't scarpered.

"...The brothel?"

Cute? Are they? He'd sort of been avoiding looking in that direction. He risks a look now, and then hastily averts his gaze back the way it came. There is absolutely no reason a plague doctor should be that attractive, historically speaking.

All right. So it's not an effect of the food - the man is apparently just that comfortable with soliciting random strangers for sex. Valmont isn't sure if this should make him feel more or less at ease. The frank enumeration of possible roles they might take definitely makes him feel less at ease, and he finds himself pressing a hand to his face in embarrassment. He tries to pass it off as pinching the bridge of his nose and hopes no one notices.

"Right! Yes. Introductions. Let's - let's just start with those, shall we?"

That's something he knows how to do, at least. While it feels a bit of an unnecessarily formal gesture in this circumstance, he extends a hand to the other man all the same.

"Valmont. It's a, er, pleasure."

So to speak.
